On My Shelf: is a new series designed to help you get to know various staff members through providing a behind-the-scences glimpse into their lives as readers. This week's feature is with Leighton Crick, director of ministries, about what's he's reading in his spare time (when he's not sailing or spending time with his family), books he re-reads & any favorite fiction.

What's on your nightstand right now?

A message in a bottle that was an anniversary gift from Gina, a paua shell, a journal given to me by the youth that I worked with in New Zealand full of notes of thanks and love, and my Sojourn journal.

What are you learning about life and following Jesus?

I am learning that life never plays out as I think best and it gets messy. I am also learning that God is busy working right in the middle of it all.  Lately he is teaching me how to trust him with everything and encouraging me with daily glimpses of his love, mercy and grace.

What are some books you regularly re-read and why?

One books that comes to mind is Blue Like Jazz. I love the story of Blue Like Jazz because it inspired me with a different perspective on following Jesus.

What are your favorite fiction books?

The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia and some others that begin with ‘The'. :-)
