On My Shelf: is a new series designed to help you get to know various staff members through providing a behind-the-scences glimpse into their lives as readers. This week's feature is with Matt Herron, lead pastor & horse-racing enthusiast, about what's he's reading in his spare time, books he re-reads & any favorite fiction.

What's on your nightstand right now?

Washed and Waiting, by Wesley Hill

Saturate, by Jeff Vanderstelt

How (Not) to be Secular, by James K. A. Smith

What are you learning about life and following Jesus?

How important and life-giving it is to actively love people.  This has led to a deeper, more creative interest in my neighbors and friends (especially those who do not yet know Jesus).

What are some books you regularly re-read and why?

The Gospel Primer for Christians by Milton Vincent - because I love how he helps me consider the gospel from so many angles.  Anything by Tim Keller - this needs no explanation.  :-)

What are your favorite fiction books?

The truth is: I do not read fiction.
