Last Sunday, we announced that we will be moving to two services on June 5th! We are celebrating God's work of growing our church. Please read below for more information about our transition and how you can play a part in it.
WHEN WILL THIS BEGIN?
Our first Sunday with two services will be June 5.
WHAT ARE THE NEW SERVICE TIMES?
Our new services times are 9a & 11a.
WILL THE SERVICES BE IDENTICAL?
Yes, they will be. We will gather together to corporately worship God. Our services will seek to be God-centered with a corporate focus—we sing to God together, we read God's Word together, and we learn from God's Word together. We, the people of God, gather to meet with God.
At both services, we will continue to seek to re-present the grand truths of the gospel to ourselves and each other—the glory and holiness of our Creator-Lord, our brokenness as a result of our sin and our resultant need for a Savior, the saving mercy and grace found in Jesus Christ, and his compelling love that moves us to love each other, our community, and our world.
WHY WOULD WE EVEN DO THIS?
Out of need & our of vision! You've probably experienced some of our needs yourself; they include: running out of parking spaces & seating capacity is diminishing. As we seek to be a church not for ourselves. These two main needs could be barriers for those that are visiting Sojourn.
Our vision is greatly connected to our decision for two services. We are a community of Sojourners who are committed to making more and better disciples of Jesus Christ. We have been praying to this end for a few years... and it is actually happening. We are so thankful! But, creating a place where we can effectively reach people who do not know Jesus is hard sometimes. We can all drift towards selfishness and like things "our own way". We get comfortable and change can seem undesirable. In light of this, one of the primary things that we have had to remind ourselves of along the way is that: we are a church not for ourselves. We believe that even though that goes against our natural instincts, it is the right and necessary posture of a church that actually buys in to the mission that Jesus left for us to pursue.
IS THIS A "SUMMER ONLY" THING?
Although we don’t know what the future holds, we currently plan on sticking with two services after the summer months. Going to two services is a response to the trajectory of our church's growth over the last few years.
If two services aren't needed in the months to come, we aren't married to it. We will reassess. At the current moment, we anticipate continued growth into the fall by God's work!
WHY NOT PLANT ANOTHER CAMPUS?
We want to be a healthier and stronger mother-church before we consider planting.
WHAT ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER NEEDS WILL THIS CREATE?
Ministry team leaders are actively assembling volunteers from our current teams. In upcoming weeks, we will be asking for more help based on need to the larger body. For the next few Sundays, we will have "Directory Updates" sheets around Sojourn. This is a great time to update your information for our communication purposes and for you to show your potential willingness to help in the transition by marking a ministry you'd be willing to serve in. (Volunteer scheduling details to be announced later.)
